People I’ve Loved
You can sense sincere enthusiasm in Carissa Potter’s gorgeous illustrations. Unbeknownst to me when I picked the card, a good friend and early advisor, was working on a book with Carissa, ‘I Like You, I Love You.’ An Instagram of them together alerted me to the collab, which is out in Sept. WHERE DID THE NAME OF YOUR STUDIO COME FROM?
It was originally from an exhibition I had a few years back. I really liked that it was kinda vague, but brought up feelings of love and nostalgia. I liked that it was complicated, like relationships. There is a like a combo of odd longing and sadness, but a positive focus, I hope.

WHO IS ON YOUR TEAM, AND HOW DID YOU COME TOGETHER?
We are Heather Van Winckle, Amy Burek and Emily Gui. Oh gosh, so Heather and I (Carissa Potter) met in Grad School at SFAI back in 2008. It was not until like 2013 that we started working together. I am a super fan of Heather and her personal practice. She is total amazeballs. Her site is heathervanwinckle.com. Amy, came to volunteer for Colpa Press, my last project with Luca Antonucci. We had this arts newsstand on Market Street in San Francisco, where we hosted events and sold paper goods, etc. Then I loved Amy so much that she became a great friend and now we work together. She has a crazy story. She is also a biologist pragmatist. Her personal work is at awkwardladiesclub.com. Emily and I met while working at Kala - where we are both artists in residence. She is a super rad printer from the east coast that I fell instantly for. There is just a gentle kindness about Emily that is really comforting. She is also an amazingly talented artist and printer. http://emilygui.com/

HOW DID YOU GET INTO DESIGN AND LETTERPRESS?
I took a class in grad school. Boom. I. was. hooked. In my personal work, I am totally obsessed with people, nature, communication, and connection. Letterpress was a super natural way to create objects to facilitate relationships of all sorts.

Where do we find inspiration?
All over the place! This is kinda a hard question. It happens when I want it to happen. Lots of times we have brainstorming sessions. Sometimes there are google searches. I am really into the idea of making a creative time. Or noting when you feel your creative time is high and setting aside that time for focus. Ask me how to know when it is your time? Shoot, I have no idea. BUT mine is in the shower. Sometimes when I exercise. Or right before a nap...

WHAT KIND OF PRESS(ES) DO YOU USE?
We use a Vandercook Sp-15, Vandercook 1 and C&P 8x10. For letterpress. But for Digital we have a 9900 epson and we do a ton of screen printing too!

WHICH PRESS WAS USED TO PRINT THE NICELY NOTED CARDS?
We used the C&P
