Hubbub Paper Co
Sibylle has quite a knack for detailed and delightful illustrations. Her artful craftsmanship and lovely design sense led us to veer across the norther border for the first time. We’re aiming for beautiful, handmade cards and can loosen the rules every once in a while!

WHERE DID THE NAME OF YOUR STUDIO COME FROM?
The name Hubbub Paper Co. comes from my belief that even small, everyday occasions are worth celebrating. I associate the word Hubbub with a lot of excitement or activity. Creating a bit of excitement or showing someone that your thinking of them with a card or small gift can be a wonderful thing.

Who is on your team, and how did you come together?
My team is very small (pretty much just me, Sibylle Cox), I do all the design, printing and packaging of everything. But I couldn’t do it without my incredibly supportive husband how has been behind me every step of the way. From picking up supplies, maintaining equipment and helping with shows he definitely keeps things running smoothly day to day.

How did you get into design and letterpress printing?
I discovered my love of printmaking while studying fine art at Queen’s University. While there I work mainly with etching, silk screen and stone lithography. Though I had always loved the tactile quality of letterpress I didn’t have the opportunity to try it first-hand until working with a printer on our wedding invitations. This small taste had me hooked! My husband could tell how much I loved it and got me my first small table top press for our first anniversary. I don’t think he ever imagined at the time what road that press would lead me down. Though I have since outgrown it, it still holds a place of honor.

Where do you find inspiration for your designs?
I find inspiration in the things around me every day and the silly thoughts that run through my head. I try not to take myself to seriously and infuse a sense of light heartedness and whimsy into my work. Little quick doodles that I do while sitting at the kitchen table with my 5-year-old daughter often are the beginnings of a design.

What kind of press(es) do you use?
I have a Kelsey 5x8 table top (though I don’t really use it anymore). I use my Chandler and Price 10x15 new style exclusively right now. It doesn’t have a motor and is treadle operated; I love it but it can be exhausting. I have my eye on a Heidelberg Windmill in the not so distant future hopefully.

Which press was used to print the Nicely Noted cards?
The C&P 10x15.
