Dahlia Press

Where did the name of your studio come from?
I was attempting to grow Dahlia's in front of my house the year I bought my first press and moved it into my basement. Sadly the flowers did not make it - but Dahlia Press has continued to flourish.

Who is on your team, and how did you come together?
We have a small but mighty team. George is our printer and also happens to be my older brother! I taught him how to print about 5 years ago and he's been doing it for us ever since. Amy is our Wholesale Manager as well as Accountant, she and I have been friends since college. Genevieve is our Studio Lead and is responsible for processing and packaging all orders going out the door. She is the newest member to our team but we'd all be lost without her. We also have two lovely ladies, Breanna and Sylvie, who package products for us from home.

How did you get into design and letterpress printing?
I started in the world of design as an Interior Designer, but very quickly found my skills were better suited in the world of Graphic Design. After working at a Branding Agency as a designer, I started taking night classes for letterpress printing to have an opportunity to do a little design work off the computer. It was love at first site and a few months after my first class I purchased my first press.

Where do you find inspiration for your designs?
So many places! I love to look at fashion magazines for ideas for patterns and visuals, but a lot of the time my designs come from something I doodled or dreamed up.

What kind of press(es) do you use?
We have a 10x15 Chandler & Price named "Astrid", a Golding Pearl named "Pearl" and "Emmett" is our 6x10 Craftsman table top press. We're about to acquire a 4th press, a 8x12 Chandler & Price named "Ruby II"
