Nicely Noted Turns 14!

by Perry Nelson

The first Nicely Noted collection went out in March of 2012. Somehow, that was 14 years ago.

I started Nicely Noted because I missed the ease of popping into a neighborhood stationery shop. When I lived in San Francisco, part of our friend group’s Saturday brunch ritual was to meander down Union Street, shopping and visiting Union Street Papery. In New York, I’d route home from the subway past Greenwich Letterpress whenever I needed a card. It was easy to always have a beautiful card to share.

When I moved to Austin for grad school, that changed. I found myself rushing out of the office for every birthday dinner, scrambling to find a great card at the last minute. So I thought: what if the cards just showed up? Beautiful letterpress cards from independent printers, with stamps included, ready to send.

That idea became Nicely Noted.

In March 2012, CNN Money called us a “hot startup spotted at SXSW.” Cool Hunting and Dwell wrote us up. In June 2013, Bobbie Thomas featured Nicely Noted on the TODAY show. Town & Country Weddings, Elle Decoration UK, O The Oprah Magazine, Real Simple, Southwest Airlines Magazine, and more followed. Still surreal.

Over the years I’ve juggled Nicely Noted alongside a career in tech product management. Through all of it, the mission has stayed the same: make it easy to share thoughtful notes with people you care about. Every card we send is letterpress printed by hand in the United States by small, independent, mostly women-owned studios. The joy of featuring talented artists’ work hasn’t changed, and won’t.

I’m so grateful to every subscriber who’s been along for this ride. I have some exciting updates in the works, and I can’t wait to share them. Watch this space.

Thank you for 14 years. Here’s to the next 14.

Xoxo,
Perry
