Lucky Horse Press
Michele Lee, Lucky Horse Press, intermixes delicate details with bold blocks of color to form striking designs. This illustration of stacked bandit-masked animals in Partners In Crime is no exception. You may remember her adorable Pig Party design; petite, pale-pink, dancing pigs! Her style is both playful and sophisticated. You should not be surprised to see her work included in future collections.

Where did the name of your studio come from?
Our name came from a story my dad told me when I was little. He was working hard to make ends meet for us when I was a baby. One day he decided to change his situation around and went up to a racetrack in upstate NY and bet on a horse named Philip's Daughter. My dad's name is Philip too and somehow everything worked out and Philip's Daughter won the race. Maybe it was just a coincidence but I like to think that it was the lucky stars that helped the horse run and in turn that brought something good to my family. We truly aim to bring happiness to all.

Who is on your team, and how did you come together?
Right now it's just me, but the encouragement and support of my friends and family helps me get through so much. They are all honorary members of Lucky Horse Press.

How did you get into design and letterpress printing?
I had a second chance with my career when I went back to school to study communications design. I recently started illustrating more and I am very happy to be doing that. I learned letterpress printing because I wanted to design and print wedding invitations. And as I practiced more on the press, experimenting with colors and fun imagery was what I liked most so I started making greeting cards and prints.

Where do you find inspiration for your designs?
I try to find humor and adventure in the things I like most (not in any particular order) such as animals, plants, food, outdoors and yard sale finds.
